Drift! (2014)

‘High octane giant pinball on wheels’ was how motorsport aficionados described the Red Bull Drift Shifters competition held on December 8 at central Auckland’s Victoria Street.

Co-created by NZ’s ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett, the new style of racing tested the skills of the world’s top drift drivers with hairpin turns and stops to trigger sensors strategically positioned on the course’s numerous obstacles.

After the smoke and smell of burnt rubber had cleared, Whiddett emerged the 2104 champion with American Chris Forsberg and Kiwi Dan Woolhouse as runners-up.
